Today Gary got up with the intent to dive but it was still windy and his right ear felt a bit wonky. When we got to the pier and met the dive crew we found out they had forgot to bring Gary a BCD and wetsuit. It made for an easy decision to take the day off.
We went for breakfast at Zest bakery and coffee house and enjoyed a nice breakfast looking out onto the street.
Gary had the vegetarian breakfast with tea and Linda had bacon and eggs with coffee. We both had fresh squeezed orange juice which was really good and included with our meal. We decided to drop laundry off to get done, we had 3kgs at 50 THB per kg so around $6.00 for laundry. In by 8 am ready by 5 pm.
We ended up taking our laundry on the way to another beach. It was only about 3 1/2 km but it was the hardest 3 1/2 km we have ever walked. The hills were so steep you could not stand sideways or you would fall over. The first 1/2 was up and down and flat, not bad. The second 1/2 was straight up hill the whole way, well almost! The last bit was straight down hill at such a steep grade that there were warning signs for motorbikes to have no riders.
The slightest bit of gravel or sand was enough to lose your footing and send you sailing. The whole way was cement roadway except for a couple of gravel spots where repairs were needed.
The resort we went to was Coral View Resort. It had a nice beach, restaurant and bar. The first thing we did when we got there was to order a couple of mango smoothies, they sure hit the spot! We then bought a large 1.5 l bottle of water to chase the smoothie with.
We laid on the beach for most of the afternoon.
We finally ate lunch at 2:30 then returned to the beach for a bit more. Finally it was time to go home around 4 and we hoofed it back to town! It’s a killer climbing the first steep part out of the resort! Several stops along the way in 30 degree sunshine! We finally made it to the top and then the long downward slope towards town.
About half way back it sort of goes up and down, nothing really level. The danger level for a heart attack is high but not as high as the danger level for traffic when the road serves as a sidewalk! Between left hand drivers and right hand drivers you never know which way to step! Motor bikes driven by kami kazies! The taxis are pickup trucks that have seats running the length of the truck box. They are even worse than the motorbikes as they take up the whole road! You’re lucky if their side mirrors don’t clip you!!
We picked the laundry up a couple minutes early as we were going by and got back to the hotel just after 5pm. Time for a shower and relax with the air con humming on high!
It won’t be a late night tonight because Gary is scheduled to dive tomorrow morning, leaving from the3 pier at 7:30 am.
