Sunday January 17
Day 2 for us because we missed Saturday January 16 by crossing the date line.
We got up to a cloudy rainy day shortly after 4am. We each had an apple courtesy of the HK Regal Airport Hotel. Gary checked out and Linda checked our warm clothing bag containing our fleeces and long pants at the concierge for storage while we are away.
Our flight will departs from Terminal 2, which is a first for us, as all of our previous adventures have gone out of Terminal 1. Hong Kong Express is a low cost carrier and I guess that has something to do with the terminal assignment. For future reference T2 is off to the left as you walk out into T1 from the Regal Hotel. Once you take the left you go down under the roadway into the T2 building then back up an escalator. Once again left to the check in counter. After we checked in we took a subway train back to the T1 building. All gates are accessed from T1. In our case we departed from gate 512 which required us to go down the escalator to another subway train that ran us out to gates 500-530. Did I mention when we were back in T1 we grabbed a McDonalds breakfast and coffee / tea? Of all the choices McDonalds was the least undesirable place.
Once out to gate 512 with plenty of time to spare we noticed the final call for boarding of HK Express UO706 to Siem Reap. Once again for future reference, gate 512 is a bus stop. Since it was pouring rain we got complimentary Saran Wrap style “rain coats” which we donned in the bus. By the time we walked out of the bus to the stairs up to the Airbus A320 the rain had almost quit. We were seated in row 1 E & F for our 2 1/2 hour flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia. We stashed the raincoats in our backpack for future insurance.
Did we miss something? I think we should have had extra photographs for the Cambodia visa. Oops, we’ll play that by ear when we land. Update: no picture required if you pay extra US$2 each they scan your passport photo.
We are now in our room at Villa Coloniale cooling off and unpacking. Time to move outside!
We took a dip to cool off after a trip to the market. Gary bought a cotton shirts or $8 US and long shorts for $16 US.
We’re having supper about 7pm and then off to bed. We are both tired from the time change, the heat is not helping. While the wind chill is currently -41C at home I guess it’s great being hot!
