It was sunny this morning. We ate breakfast and took off to Karon beach. We stopped at the tailor shop and Gary tried on his pants and shirts. They fit perfect. Linda tried on her pants and jacket. They were also good. We had a brief discussion about COVID with the shop owner since there has been several cases in Patong Phuket which is only a 10 minute drive down the road. The reality is you can’t get rid of the covid virus. Anyhow we paid the tailor and left the clothing with him until after lunch. He had to make a small adjustment to Linda’s jacket by moving a button.
We walked along the beach to the south end and back which is close to 5 km. By the time we got back to our lounge chairs we were starving and thirsty. Gary ran across the street and bought 2 fruit smoothies for ฿100 and 2 bags of cookies for ฿60, that’s about $6 CAD for lunch. The cookies were delicious. Not sure what they are called or what is in them, a hint of cinnamon and some dark seeds, possibly black sesame seeds as they didn’t have a strong or distinctive flavour.
We hung out at the beach till after 4 and then headed for home. It was great to have a shower and get rid of all the salt and freshen up. We thought we’d try Kallot’s Restaurant tonight as they have parking. We went a couple of nights ago and they were closed. Well wouldn’t you know it we arrived and the darn place was closed again! Not sure what is going on. So we punched in Nikita’s Restaurant into Waze and drove to Rawai Beach for the first time. We’ve been there multiple times but always with Andrew or Grab. We managed fine and found a parking spot. We enjoyed a table overlooking the water. As we sat there, a small school of fish would jump out of the water with likely a large fish in pursuit underwater. It was really cool to watch. We enjoyed a couple of smoothies, passion fruit for Gary and mixed fruit for Linda. Think it was a combination of pineapple, banana and maybe some strawberries. Both really hit the spot after a hot day. We ordered some nachos and then each had a taco, Gary had a prawn taco and Linda had chicken. Both were really good. Gary’s taco has wasabi on it and really cleared his sinuses. When the owner came around to ask how everything was he mentioned how hot the wasabi was and she laughed and said all wasabi is hot, it clears your sinuses and likely keeps Covid away! Not so sure about the Covid claim but it definitely clears the sinuses. Our drive home was fine, we had a bit of an idea where we were going but almost messed up at one spot where we had to make a right turn. There are actually functioning traffic lights at that corner, the only one’s that we’ve seen with an actual stop light that people stop and wait for the light to change! It is a bad corner though so from a safety stand point that is likely a good thing.
We got home and enjoyed a couple of cold beer!
We made a coupe of GoPro videos while driving yesterday. The camera is propped on the dash. The first video going to the beach uses the GoPro Time Lapse function, the second video is displayed at double the normal speed.
Driving on the left is a challenge especially with such narrow streets. As you can see there are always obstacles in the way. Some of them are pedestrians!
